Troubleshooting
Common situations with the installation warning, microphone, echo, connection, invite link, transfer, contacts, numbers, preamp and Soundpad.
“Windows protected your PC” warning during installation
Mixapod is not digitally signed yet. Click More info in the window, then press Run anyway. The warning appears only on the first installation.
Microphone missing or no sound
- Check that the right microphone is selected in the Microphone box on the home screen; the level bar should move when you speak.
- In Windows, on the Settings › Privacy & security › Microphone page, Microphone access and Let desktop apps access your microphone must be on.
- Unplug the USB microphone and plug it back in; Mixapod refreshes the list on its own.
- If the microphone is open in another app in “exclusive mode”, close that app.
There is an echo, or the other person’s voice gets into my recording
Someone isn’t wearing headphones. Sound from speakers gets into the microphone. Everyone should use headphones. Even one person recording through laptop speakers affects the whole recording.
We can’t hear each other, or a guest can’t connect
- Wait a few seconds for someone who isn’t connected yet; if a direct connection can’t be made, Mixapod switches to the relay server. Start recording isn’t active until everyone is connected.
- On corporate, hotel or school networks, UDP may be blocked. In that case Mixapod tries to connect through the relay; if that still doesn’t work, try your phone’s hotspot.
- If a firewall or antivirus asks about Mixapod’s network access, allow it.
- If there is a connection warning at the top of the screen, check your internet connection; Mixapod reconnects on its own.
The invite link doesn’t open Mixapod
- If your browser asks whether to open Mixapod, press Open.
- If the invite page says Mixapod did not open, Mixapod isn’t installed on this computer: download it, install it, then go back to the invite page and press Open in Mixapod.
- You can always type the code by hand: into the Join a session box in Mixapod.
The transfer is slow or stuck
- The transfer depends on the guest’s upload speed. A one-hour recording is about 520 MB per person.
- Both sides should keep Mixapod open. If it closes, the transfer resumes where it left off when it’s opened again.
- If a relay is used instead of a direct connection, the transfer may be slower.
Someone is missing from the merged recording
Merge what arrived was used before that person’s file reached the host. The guest should open Mixapod and return to the same session; the missing file is requested on its own, and when it arrives, Merge again appears on the Recording ready screen. As long as someone is missing, the raw recordings aren’t deleted.
My contact doesn’t show as online
- Visibility is mutual: they must have added you too.
- One of you may have turned off Let my contacts see when I am online and call me in Settings › Preferences.
- The other person’s Mixapod may be closed. Mixapod shows as online while it is open in the tray.
Calls don’t come through
- If Who can call me in Settings › Profile is set to “Only my contacts”, people not on your list can’t call you.
- You may have blocked the caller’s number: check the blocked list in Settings › Profile.
- If Invite sound is off, the call window still opens but makes no sound.
- While the visibility setting is off, your contacts can’t call you.
The number says “not in use”
You probably dialed the number wrong, or that number hasn’t been given to anyone. A number is 212-555- followed by four digits; ask the other person to read their number next to Your Mixapod number on the Mixapod home screen.
“Too many calls tried”
Too many calls, or calls to unused numbers, were made in a short time. This protection keeps numbers from being tried one after another. Wait a while and calling opens up again.
An update won’t install
Updates aren’t installed while recording or file transfer is in progress. When the work is done, press Install and restart. If that doesn’t work, you can download the latest version from the website and install it over the current one; your recordings and settings are kept.
The preamp is ruining the sound
- If the sound is muffled, pumping or harsh, set the preset to Clean or Natural and compare with Hear yourself.
- If the gate cuts off the ends of words, lower THRESH or reduce RANGE.
- If your sound already goes through a mixer, check I use an external mixer / preamp.
- Listen to the unprocessed sound with BYPASS to hear the difference.
Soundpad sound doesn’t reach the guests
- In a session, only the host can play pads; a guest’s pad window says so.
- The volume slider in the pad window or the pad’s own level may be turned down.
- The pad’s audio file may have been moved or damaged: drop the sound onto the pad again in Settings › Soundpad.
Log file
When reporting a problem, the log file helps a lot: find the main.log file with Help › Open log folder in the menu (%APPDATA%\Mixapod\logs). The log contains no audio or recording content.
